A Brief Background of the Case
Our customer, Noreen, has owned her home since 2013, although the house was constructed in 1998.
She first contacted us in September 2024, when we installed a new kitchen faucet and garbage disposal for her. Once this job was done to her satisfaction, she asked for an estimate for replacing her home’s four water heaters. Our technician, Joey, provided the estimate for the job at that time. A few weeks later, Noreen called us to say she wanted to proceed with the water heater replacements.
Details of the Case
The four 50-gallon water heaters at Noreen’s place were in three locations.
One heater was in the garage closet, two were in the attic above the master closet, and the last was in the attic above the first-floor Jack and Jill bathroom.
There were no obvious signs of leakage or malfunction on any of the water heaters, though they were all 13 to 14 years old. With the average lifespan of a water heater being 8 to 12 years, it was the perfect time to replace it and avoid the inconvenience of a breakdown or a disastrous leak.
How Legacy Handled the Replacements
Given the weight of the equipment and the cramped attic space where three of the four water heaters would be installed, this was a two-man job.
Our senior technical team recommended top-of-the-line Professional Series Reliance gas water heaters for superior performance and energy efficiency. Our experienced technician, Brandon, and an apprentice were dispatched to Noreen’s place to execute the job.
Here are the specific steps we took:
- Four existing water heaters were replaced with 50-gallon gas-powered replacements.
- Installed gas supply lines and the necessary water lines at all four locations.
- Put a new water shut-off valve and a gas sediment trap to protect the water heaters from debris.
- Installed expansion tanks to protect the plumbing system from extreme pressures in keeping with Plano city codes.
- Removed the old water heaters from the customer’s property and disposed of them.
The Impact
The result of our successful replacement of four water heaters and their accompanying systems was immediately apparent to the homeowner. Noreen was pleased to have instant hot water at all faucets and appliances across the house, a vast improvement over the long time it took her old water heaters to work. A wholly upgraded water heating system also meant she would have lower energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint.
